YOUR GENERATION

Each summer we take the rising Juniors and Seniors to visit different college campuses. At the end of the Texas A&M tour, we were eating lunch at Koppe Bridge and talking about life after high school. Half way through the fries, this innocent, brown eyed young girl asked, “What do you think about our generation? Like compared to your generation, which is better?”

After pondering this great question, I started to reply that it is probably better to go to the hospital in 2023 instead of 1973 because…

and before I could finish the sentence she interjected,

“Oh, yeah. Because they didn’t have medicine back then.”

Well, um, they did have medicine but we did not have cell phones. We used a rotary phone that was wired to a wall in the house. We would look up phone numbers in the phone book. It was in this moment, staring at their blank expressions of disbelief, I realized why parents say, “Back in my day, we had to walk to school in 7 feet of snow and it was uphill both ways!”
