Soaring to New Heights

18 years ago when FPR began, we said we needed a baseball team. Then a soccer team and a basketball team. Then we needed to take over Homework Help at MWE. Then TWE. We sent kids to Camp Ozark, then Camp OTX. Then we needed a library and more space at the Outreach Center so we remodeled.

Then we made the strategic decision to build programs that grew up with our participants to discover how to walk with a child into successful adulthood. We added a track team and college readiness. We started awarding college scholarships. Last year we accomplished our goal to raise over a $1mil for the scholarship fund. This allowed us to increase the amount we awarded to each recipient.

FPR is making things happen.

We are getting things done.

And we are growing.

A year and a half ago the staff gathered to pick up a Magic Stick and ask, What if?

What if we had a fence to create a safer outdoor play space? One that was accessed without crossing a parking lot?

What if we had a teaching kitchen? One with the proper outlets so we didn’t trip the breaker?

What if we had rooms large enough for Focus Time so we didn’t have to cap the enrollment at 15?

The 2 most popular requests from our participants are a leader for every activity and a zipline from MWE to FamilyPoint.  One of those is more likely than the other.

These conversations grew more serious and the possibility of a new building, a larger space for FamilyPoint became a real possibility.  We are excited to continue working with the Outreach Center of West Houston and our other neighbors and partners to design and build a new, expanded space that will allow FamilyPoint to improve our programs and grow the number of participants we can serve.

We are excited because this is a big dream.

We are humbled because all of this is more that we thought possible. That's because God is leading this organization. God saw potential in the apartments and these condos in the schools and homes and called people to make something happen. Continues to call people. FPR has wings and continues to reach new heights because of God.

So I ask you to continue making us aware of your needs, to continue volunteering, to continue telling us your dreams, and to continue making donations.

In the new year, we need to build bigger wings so the FPR participants can soar to new heights.
